Scoliosis

Types

Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis: Makes up 80% of all scoliosis cases. Characterized by curve pattern, rotation of vertebrae, gender, decompensation.

Congenital Scoliosis: Result of vertebral failure to form or segment. Progression of curve is usually rapid.

Neuromuscular Scoliosis: This can be a result of cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy/atrophy, polio, and myelomenigocele. Orthotic goals are to improve respiratory function, support, prevent deformity and free upper extremities.

Gomez Orthotic System

Focuses on the balance and alignment of the total body in relation to the spine. Bending forces are used in the total contact body jackets to establish balance and alignment in all 3 planes of the body. Photodocumentation, measurements in a corrected position and CAD/CAM system are used to create the custom orthosis. The amount of correction applied to the patient via the brace depends on the flexibilty of the patient.
