Gel Liner

Caring

1 Wash gel part of liner daily, with a soap that doesn't contain dye, perfume, or anti- bacterial properties. Examples: Clear Ivory Liquid, Clear Palm Olive, Dove soap.
2 Also clean residual limb with same soap used on gel Liner. Perfume soaps could cause similar reactions when in contact with gel liner.
3 Skin irritation could be a direct result of improper cleaning of liner or residual limb!
4 Rotate gel liners daily
5 Spray gel part of liner with rubbing alcohol once every two weeks unless instructed otherwise.

Problem Solving

1 Make sure the locking pin on gel liner is totally visible once sock or socks have been applied.
2 Make sure your sock has a hole in the bottom for the locking pin.
3 Make sure once liner has been applied, that pin is straight and the front of liner faces up so you can read it. IF NOT REAPPLY LINER PROPERLY!
4 Do not use a sheath, sock, powder or any lubricant between your skin and liner unless specified by your Prosthetist.
5 If a burning sensation occurs on your knee cap once liner has been applied, bend knee, place your hand (palm facing up) between liner and knee cap lift gel gently and lay gel back over knee while knee is still in bent position or place a very light layer of A&D Ointment medicated over the area that is burning. Not the whole limb!
6 Make sure locking device has secured gel liner in prosthesis before walking.
7 If sweating remains an issue you can try applying one of the listed roll ons to your limb the night before: Dri Sol, Alma, Certain Dry or Secret Platinum. Make sure that if you wash residual limb prior to application. If you shower in morning you will need to keep limb as dry as possible not washing off the roll on applied the night prior to use!

Donning

1 Identify the outside & front of gel liner, usually noted by the brand name of gel liner.
2 Invert gel liner so gel side is to outside.
3 Orient distal center of inverted gel liner (bottom), on the distal center of residual limb.
4 Roll gel liner proximal all the way onto residual limb gently, no air should be trapped inside distal end.
5 Pay close attention to alignment of locking pin at end of the liner making sure it is in straight alignment with residual limb. Avoid any wrinkles .
